Helicopters are composed of various components such as the main rotor, tail rotor, fuselage, and engine. Today, let's summarize the features and roles of the main rotor, tail rotor, and Anti-Icing System.


Main Rotor

The main rotor is the most crucial component that enables a helicopter to fly. The main rotor system consists of a mast, hub, and rotor blades.

The mast is the shaft that connects the fuselage and the blades, and it is connected to the hub at the top. The hub connects the blades and allows them to rotate. Links, vertically connected to the mast and hub, extend and contract, adjusting the pitch angle of the blades according to the situation.

Tail Rotor

The tail rotor is a small rotor mounted vertically at the tail of the helicopter. It rotates at about 4 to 6 times the speed of the main rotor because it is smaller.

Anti-Torque

When there is a single main rotor, it rotates in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Rotating in only one direction causes the fuselage to gradually rotate in the opposite direction.

In this case, the tail rotor plays a vital role in generating thrust in the direction opposite to the rotation of the fuselage at the tail, enabling the helicopter to move forward in a straight line.

Yawing Motion

Additionally, yawing refers to changing the direction of an aircraft left or right. The tail rotor is responsible for controlling the helicopter's direction.

Anti-Icing System

Helicopters need to operate in adverse weather conditions, and ice accumulation becomes more prominent at high altitudes. Ice formation often occurs on the windshield and engine intakes.

This can lead to impacts on other components. To address this, the Anti-Icing System uses heating elements, such as bleed air for the engine and heat-generating materials at the tips of the rotor blades, to enhance performance.

 

In summary, helicopters consist of various components, but the most crucial components in terms of performance are the main rotor and tail rotor. To ensure their safe operation, Anti-Icing Systems and other measures are applied.
